
WASHINGTON, D.C., November 20, 2024 – Natcast, the purpose-built, non-profit entity designated by the Department of Commerce to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) established by the CHIPS and Science Act of the U.S. government, today announced that Nicholas Donofrio has been inducted as a 2024 Sigma Xi Fellow by the Scientific Research Honor Society. A former long-time executive at IBM and current member of the Natcast Board of Trustees, Donofrio was recognized for his innovation and career accomplishments at the International Forum on Research Excellence, the Society’s annual conference, in Washington, D.C., over the weekend.
“Nick’s recognition as a 2024 Sigma Xi Fellow is a testament to his remarkable impact on technology and his unwavering commitment to advancing scientific innovation,” said Robin Abrams, interim chair of the Natcast Board of Trustees. “His achievements, both as a visionary leader in the tech industry and as a champion of inclusivity in STEM, demonstrate why he is such an essential part of Natcast’s mission to foster groundbreaking research and strengthen U.S. leadership in the technologies of tomorrow.”
The Sigma Xi Fellow distinction honors members for exceptional service to the Society and significant contributions to scientific progress. Each year, a cohort of fellows is awarded through a competitive process that recognizes individuals who have earned respect and acknowledgment from their peers. This prestigious fellowship embodies Sigma Xi’s legacy of promoting excellence in research and fostering a collaborative spirit among dedicated scientists.

Donofrio is a distinguished technology leader and former IBM executive, where he held roles as Executive Vice President, Vice Chairman of the IBM International Foundation, and Chairman of the Board of Governors for the IBM Academy of Technology over his four-decade career. Donofrio holds seven technology patents, is a member of numerous technical and science honor societies, and holds several board positions, in addition to serving on the Natcast Board of Trustees. Throughout his career, Donofrio has consistently championed education and career pathways in STEM for underrepresented groups. He holds a B.S.E.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S.E.E from Syracuse University.
