Former ASML government affairs head will lead nonprofit’s stakeholder education, partnership efforts

WASHINGTON – July 17, 2024 – Natcast, the purpose-built, nonprofit operator of the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC), today announced Maryam Cope as Vice President of Governmental Affairs. In this role, Cope is responsible for overseeing Natcast’s interactions with government agencies, policymakers, industry leaders, and other relevant entities to support the nonprofit’s stakeholder education and partnership building efforts.

“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to boldly invest in our nation’s technological and economic future, but we will only succeed if the private and public sectors can unite behind a shared vision,” said Deirdre Hanford, CEO of Natcast. “Maryam’s proven track record of fostering strong relationships with and between key stakeholders across industry, government, and academia will be instrumental in advancing Natcast’s mission to enable disruptive innovation and reestablish America’s leadership in the global semiconductor industry through innovative, cross-sector partnerships.”

Cope joins Natcast from ASML, a leading lithography supplier to the semiconductor industry, where she served as Head of U.S. Government Affairs. In this role, Cope worked with various stakeholders to develop and lead initiatives related to interactions with government and other public organizations while also responding to global political and regulatory developments. Before joining ASML in 2021, Cope served as Director of Government Affairs at the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), where she helped advance the industry’s key legislative and regulatory priorities related to semiconductor research and technology, high-skilled immigration, and product security.

“The semiconductor industry is the most critical sector for U.S. economic and national security,” said Cope. “At this defining time for U.S. global competitiveness, I look forward to leveraging my experience, bipartisan relationships, and policy expertise to help Natcast strengthen its partnerships with key leaders from both the public and private sectors to drive semiconductor investment, progress, and growth in the U.S. Together, we will ensure that the U.S. remains at the forefront of semiconductor technology and innovation for decades to come.”

Before joining SIA, Cope held several leadership roles at the American Hotel and Lodging Association and the Information Technology Industry Council. Cope began her career in the United States Senate, serving as professional staff on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, focusing on science, innovation, and security legislation, including the National Nanotechnology Initiative and the America Competes Acts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology from Northwestern University and a graduate certificate from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Women Leaders.
